More than twenty five years, ago, while still in grade
school and working in his grandfather's auto parts store,
Bill Devine would see many guys with hot street cars come in
to buy parts. This was his first exposure to the racing
community. After owning many different cars, Bill picked up
his 89 Mustang GT while living in Salt Lake City. He
started modifying it with all the typical bolt-ons (pulleys,
rockers, K&N filter), but after a while the need for speed
started to get the best of him, so next came a nitrous oxide
kit. Bill eventually moved to the northeast and kept on
adding modifications to the car. He eventually added a
blower along with the nitrous and that seemed to keep him
satisfied for a while. During his time at Dayton Ford
Motorsport, Bill met the late “Racin” Jason Betwarda.
Through his friendship with Jason, Bill became inspired to
develop his own turbocharged race car. The 89GT he still
owned became that car. Sadly, the GT is gone, a product
of its era at the forefront of Mustang drag racing.
Currently living in Florida, Bill has upgraded to a tube
chassis car built by Racecraft, Inc. Still running the same
combination that powered the 89 to sick 7.30 times, Devine
has changed engine builders to the legendary Ronnie Crawford
in Miami, Florida. Wild Bill Devine currently holds the
record of World’s Fastest 5.0 liter based Mustang. Expect
to see consistent 6.80 E.T.’s as Devine irons out this new
combination during the latter part of 2005 and beyond. |
